AIFA Beaufort West Base

AIFA is in the process of developing its third base at the Beaufort West airfield which is situated next to the N1 highway approximately 11 kilometres East of the town. It is situated in the heart of the Great Karoo.

The tarring of the runway, taxiway and apron has been completed. New runway- and taxiway lighting was installed as well as an APAPI approach lighting system. The control tower and its associated facilities are operational and have been licensed by the SACAA. Construction of the main hangar and simulator building has started as well as the upgrading of the fuel facility. Jet A-1 and AVGAS fuel are available. Temporary mobile offices have been erected to enable the commencement of flying training operations early in 2015.

Beaufort West is at an elevation of 2929 ft. AMSL. Its main runway is 08/26 and is 30 meters wide and 1483 meters long.Two alternate gravel runways for emergency use have been scraped, both more than 1 000 meters long. The airfield co-ordinates are S032º18`00 E022º40`00.

AIFA uses Cessna 172SP, Piper Seminole and King Air aircraft in Beaufort West.
